Lolo & Galago in talks to trial precious metal 3D printer

Fine jewellery brand Lolo and Galago is currently in early stage talks about working with a Swiss company which can 3D print jewellery using gold instead of wax or resin.

The brand is discussing the possibility of a direct-from-print collection, with pieces finished using traditional methods.

The process would mean the omission of the usual casting stages – after the creation of CAD designs the 3D printer is then loaded with powdered precious metal, and layer by layer ‘builds’ the piece of jewellery.

After printing Lolo & Galago plans to employ all the traditional jewellery making techniques, including cleaning, polishing and setting their pieces by hand.

Jason Penn, owner of Lolo & Galago said: “[We] are thrilled to be working on such a ground-breaking collection. We’ve always positioned ourselves as a contemporary brand and it is our mission to embrace modern technological developments to continually push ourselves as an innovator creating truly exotic jewellery.

“Some of the most famous brands in the world first differentiated themselves with a technical development and at Lolo & Galago we aim to do just that.”
