The rare ‘Sakura’ pink diamond is reportedly the largest of its kind to be offered at any auction as fewer than 10% of pink diamonds weigh more than 1/5 of a carat

Christie’s has announced that a 15.81 carat “fancy vivid purple pink type lla” diamond ring, estimated between HK$195m (£18.2m) – HK$300m (£28m) will go under the hammer at the Magnificent Jewels live auction on 23 May 2021.

The rare ‘Sakura’ pink diamond is reportedly the largest of its kind to be offered at any auction as fewer than 10% of pink diamonds weigh more than 1/5 of a carat.

The gem is graded “fancy vivid’ for its strong saturation and pink hue with a secondary colour of purple.

Vickie Sek, chairman, department of jewellery, Christie’s Asia Pacific, said: “This season we are very honoured to continue this fine tradition by presenting The Sakura Diamond in Hong Kong.
