New CEO appointed to National Pawnbrokers Association

The NPA has announced the appointment of a new chief executive to succeed Ray Perry, the current CEO, in June of this year.

Stu McInroy joins from the Bookmakers’ Committee where he was general secretary for the statutory body parented by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport for the last seven years.

He has been responsible for achieving the strategic goals defined by the Committee and was the point of contact for all Horserace Betting Levy related matters.

Prior to this, McInroy had a 21-year career in the RAF where he was variously an aviator, held responsibility for the training and competence of personnel in his squadron, and rose through the ranks to Wing Commander. In this latter role he worked in the Ministry of Defence advising the Secretary of State for Defence and heads of the Armed Forces while liaising closely with other government departments and agencies.

Responding to his appointment, McInroy said: “Pawnbroking is a modern, professional, socially responsible and highly regulated industry – and one which I am delighted to be joining. My previous experience of government, parliamentarians and regulators should hold me in good stead in order to best serve NPA members.”

NPA president, Paul Smit added: “I am pleased to be welcoming Stu to the Association and look forward to him building on the successes of Ray and the team in driving the understanding and importance of pawnbroking to a broad audience of stakeholders whilst supporting the profession.”

Outgoing chief executive Perry held the role for four-and-a-half years, and leaves to join the British Institute of Facilities Management as chief executive.
