Engagement ring purchases increased in 2022, Queensmith reports

The jeweller found that the average person spent £6,500 on an engagement ring in the year, an increase from previous years

Jeweller Queensmith has released its 2022 engagement ring report, finding that the average person spent £6,500 on an engagement ring in the year, an increase from previous years.

November was the most popular month to purchase an engagement ring last year, while
Queensmith also noticed there was a growing trend in summer vacation proposals, with purchases for engagement rings noticeably increasing in both July and August, predicting summer proposals to be big in 2023.

Looking at 2022 as a whole, it said there has been an uplift in website traffic, online purchases and in-store appointments. Engagement ring shopping is showing no sign of slowing down, with these occasions offering hope and stability to couples in an otherwise uncertain climate.

The most popular style of engagement ring were Solitaire rings, a classic design featuring one centre diamond or gemstone with a plain band. Recent trends for a more demure and simplistic style has seen diamond band engagement rings slot into second spot.

Queensmith said: “We saw a consistent increase in demand for ‘other’, more bespoke styles as couples aimed to make their engagement ring feel more personal to them with toi et moi (“you and me”) and five-stone rings.”
