A custom-designed pair of Bulgari earrings inspired by Elizabeth Taylor and her film Cleopatra will be auctioned by Sotheby’s in its Magnificent Jewels auction in New York this December.
In celebration of the films 50th anniversary this year, Bulgari will donate proceeds from the sale of a pair of 18 carat gold, spinel, turquoise and diamond earrings which are estimated at $18-22,000 (£11-14,000), to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF).
The earrings, created as a one-of-a-kind contemporary piece, will be featured in preview exhibitions at Sotheby’s London, Geneva and Los Angeles galleries, prior to the public exhibition in New York beginning 7 December.
Reflective of the dramatic colours and motifs of ancient Egypt, Bulgari created the earrings in honour of the film’s anniversary. Cleopatra is considered one of the grandest cinematic spectacles of all time, taking home four Academy Awards.
The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation raises awareness and provides care for those affected by HIV/AIDS around the world and 100 per cent of the money raised at the auction will benefit the cause.
