The London Jewellery School (LJS) has announced that it will move to new studios next to Brick Lane from September this year.
The newly renovated studio boasts natural light with large windows in all three teaching spaces – something missing from the current premises.
The new premises in the E1 Business Centre on Whitechapel Road are only a minute’s walk from Aldgate East underground station, and close to other tube and mainline stations making it even easier to reach.
The new location means LJS is maintaining its tradition of teaching jewellery skills in locations with great jewellery heritage. The new studios are just metres away from the site of Black Lion Yard, once London’s second key jewellery quarter.
The street, demolished in the early 70s, was known as “Hatton Garden of the East End” and was home to a large number of jewellers and watchmakers.
The area still offers plenty to inspire the current generation of jewellery makers with a strong art and design culture. The Whitechapel Gallery is close to the studio, with the area also being home to The Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design.
LJS will continue to offer more than 85 jewellery courses, private tuition and bench rental across the three newly renovated teaching studios.
