The chief executive of Holts Group and the government’s apprenticeship ambassador for SMEs, Jason Holt, has been awarded the honour of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2015 New Year’s honours list.

Holt, who founded Holts Academy, was recognised for his services to apprenticeships, his contribution to promoting apprenticeships to SMEs and his efforts to regenerate skills in the jewellery sector.

Holt said: “This is an extraordinary honour and something I never thought would come my way. I have always felt as a business owner I needed to act – to do something about the skills gap in our sector.

“I’m always willing to help if I know that I can make a valuable contribution, and to be recognised for that in this way is very humbling.”
