The London Diamond Bourse (LDB) has today announced it will act as centralised point of contact for members of the trade affected by the recent robbery in Hatton Garden

The LDB said that it is concerned that there is no “coordinated effort” to manage the situation outside the consumer press and a reliance on the word of mouth for information, with many individuals and businesses left at a loss for somewhere to ask for assistance.

LDB also expressed its concerns that there are further “reaching effects to the trade as a whole”, due to the fact that those with a safety deposit box in the vault have not been able to get their stock – even if their box has not been interfered with.

Victoria McKay, chief operating officer at LDB, said: “We, in Hatton Garden (and indeed the industry), need to stick together as the effects of this situation become transparent. I returned from leave yesterday to find an understandably subdued atmosphere in Hatton Garden and people who seemed lost at what to do next.

“We welcome an approach from any organisation or business that is able to join us in providing help to the industry.

“The Bourse is an integral part of the industry and is ideally placed to be able to facilitate a coming together of the Hatton Garden community. We have the foresight to understand that the long-term effects could become a strain to small businesses and individual traders so we are offering help not only to protect our own members but also the ancillary trade, who provide services to our members.”

The bourse said that it is not in a position to offer financial aid but that it has the resources to guide and aid those who find themselves in an “unwelcome” and “onerous” position.

To make yourself known as one who may be affected, you can contact lDB on [email protected] or call 0207 404 4044.
