Diamond production company Lucara has recovered a type IIa, 336-carat diamond from its Karowe Mine in Botswana.
In addition the company also reported a number of “exceptional” diamonds, including a 184-carat, a 94-carat and an 86-carat stone. A 12-carat pink stone was also recovered, however the company said that it will confirm its colour after it has been cleaned.
William Lamb, president and CEO, said: “The ongoing recovery of large exceptional diamonds from the Karowe Mine continues to support the resource estimates.
“This resource has consistently produced significant value for the company and its shareholders and the ongoing recovery of high value stones sets Lucara apart from most other diamond producers.”
Over the past three years, since the recovery of the first large diamond from the Karowe mine in 2013, Lucara has recovered 216 diamonds that have sold for more than $250,000 (£160,000) each, with 12 selling for more than $5m (£3.2m) each.
