The National Association of Jewellers (NAJ) has welcomed the government’s four-step roadmap to take the country out of lockdown.

Earlier this week, prime minister Boris Johnson announced the easing of lockdown restrictions in England, which would see jewellers and other retailers allowed to reopen by 12 April.

Scottish jewellers are not expected to reopen until the last week of April, while Welsh ministers have identified 15 March as a potential reopening date in the country, however this date is not confirmed.

The trade association is hoping its annual summit event on 10 September will be allowed to take place safely.

Gary Wroe, the NAJ’s chair, said: “Although the easing plan is understandably conditional, I think it’s important we welcome the full plan giving us all a picture of how society can return to a new normal, hopefully by the end of June.

“The association’s summit event is scheduled to start on the 10th September, a month that with this news could look, positively, quite different to September just gone.”
