The Birmingham Assay Office has announced the election of eight new guardians of the Standard Wrought Plate.
Created in 1773 by an act of parliament, the role was formed to control and protect the office.
The elected members are Peter Crump, Kate Canty, Dr Tracy Carlton, Lauren Hartigan-Pritchard, Nicola McGowan, Andy Moss, Gordon Hamme, and Gervase Lancaster.
Out of the overall 36 elected to the positions, no more than nine or less than six can be connected to the jewellery trade.
The set of guardians are tasked with providing independent advice, professional guidance, and introductions within their field of expertise to benefit the Assay Office.
Nicola McGowan, director of internal audit and risk at Travis Perkins, said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as a guardian of the Birmingham Assay Office.
“It is a great honour to be invited to work with this historic institution in my hometown. I look forward to playing a part in supporting its continued success and evolution.”
Gervase Lancaster, wealth planner at Succession Wealth, added that she looks “forward [to] assisting this long-standing enterprise into the future”.
