The inaugural Jewels of Queensland exhibition of contemporary designer jewellery pieces was recently held at Australia House in London.
A large number of UK jewellery media journalists and influencers attended the event, which was held over three evenings from the 12 September.
Five emerging designers from the UK, Chris Boland, Andrew English, Amanda Li Hope, Samira Jafari and Emily Thatcher presented a range of jewellery pieces showcasing responsibly sourced gemstones from gemstone producers in Central Queensland Australia.
The designers used the gems to create a collection of unique and personalised jewels under the Jewels of Queensland banner.
The collaboration with Mr Ian Bone, a direct source supplier of Queensland gemstones, complemented and added a background story to the gems used in the pieces.
Guests to the exhibition were treated to views of the raw gem material that each gemstone originates from, and told stories about how and where the gems are mined.
The Jewels of Queensland Collection aims to shifts the paradigm of designers working individually to that of designers working in collaboration with each other and the gemstone supplier.
The idea of knowing the “story” of the gemstone and the creation of the pieces is preeminent in the overall concept behind the establishment of the collection.
Plans are currently being made for a second event and the collective are in the process of developing a web site and associated social media platforms.
