The number of silver articles hallmarked in the month of August brought overall figures into the black when compared to the same time last year.
Overall, there was a 7.9% increase in the number of metals hallmarked.
There were 468,460 silver articles hallmarked, up 132,361 from the 336,099 articles form 2016.
Gold saw a drop in hallmarking by 17.6% down to 328,946 articles. Platinum experienced a smaller decrease of 6.9%, which was 22,6060 articles hallmarked this August.
Palladium had 8,812 articles hallmarked in August, indicating an uptick of 2.3%.
