Independent jeweller Gus Jones Jewellers has announced that it will be closing its Bargoed store in March after 120 years of trading.

The Jones family opened its first store in Bargoed in 1903.

According to Gus Jones, it is unable to continue business in Bargoed because of rising costs and falling footfall.

It also said that customers who have outstanding repairs or special orders or savings accounts to come to the store by the end of February to collect them.

Any remaining items and accounts will be transferred to its Blackwood store for collection.

The company’s other three branches in Abergavenny, Blackwood and Ebbw Vale will continue business as usual.

In a statement on Facebook, the jewellery retailer said: “It’s with much sadness that we have to announce that the Bargoed store will be closing at the beginning of March. Thank you to all our customers over the past 120 years and to all our employees who have worked in Bargoed, we have really valued being part of the community.”
