The total number of items hallmarked by the four UK Assay Offices dropped 3.3% in 2024.
In total 7,763,014 pieces of jewellery were hallmarked in 2024 compared with 8,031,340 in 2023, a decline of 268,326.
Gold hallmarking dropped 1.8% from 3,521,940 pieces hallmarked down to 3,457,909.
However, gold 999 saw a 31.3% decrease in hallmarking numbers, while gold 585 saw a 12.8% increase compared with last year.
The total number of silver pieces hallmarked also saw a decline, a drop of 5.0% from 4,148,853 down to 3,941,894.
All silver categories saw a drop, with silver 958 recording the biggest decline of 49.6%.
Additionally, platinum saw a slight decline in hallmarking of 0.3% from 356,465 to 356,465.
The four UK Assay Offices are based in Birmingham, Sheffield, London and Edinburgh.
