Sheffield jeweller Jennie Gill has been announced as one of the 60 independent makers from all over the UK who will exhibit at the inaugural Goldsmiths North international summer selling fair at the Cutlers’ Hall from 12 to 14 July.

Whitby-born Gill will be showcasing her handmade jewellery that is characterised by a “modern spin” on traditional methods and materials, including hand cut, natural diamonds and Whitby jet.

Gill said: “I have been designing and making precious jewellery here in Sheffield for 28 years since I graduated with a silversmithing degree in 1991, so I’m really excited that the first Goldsmiths North fair is being held in the iconic Cutlers’ Hall in my adopted home city.

“I love working with vintage cut diamonds as the flaws and the inclusions tell their own stories. Stories are important to my work, I want to capture in each piece a sense of another life, maybe grander, maybe a completely different purpose, but always a past.”

She will be joined at the fair by a host of makers, including Victoria Walker, whose jewellery is inspired by flowers and seed pods; Polly Gasston, whose pieces reflect the near east; 3D jewellery designer Max Danger; Mikala Djorup, whose jewellery has a Scandinavian feel and Letters to Jinny who creates jewellery with secret compartments and hidden messages.

Organised by contemporary British silversmith, Brett Payne and Rebecca Joselyn, Freeman of The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, the fair is being supported by The Goldsmiths’ Company, The Sheffield Assay Office and The Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire.

Payne added: “Goldsmiths North is an international summer selling fair that is bringing the finest contemporary silverware and jewellery from the UK and Europe to the North of England. We want to offer visitors a unique shopping experience not available to them on the high street – a chance to engage with and buy direct from the makers.”
