All four assay offices across the UK have closed their doors amid the coronavirus crisis.
The assay offices, in Birmingham, Edinburgh, London and Sheffield, will now be closed for business for “at least” three weeks.
In a statement, the British Hallmarking Council said: “The pandemic has caused many disruptions to business across the UK.
“The UK assay offices have of course been similarly affected and from the end of today all four offices will be closed for at least three weeks.”
The council said that any business that requires product hallmarking or advice should contact their local assay office. It ensured that guidance would still be provided during the period of closure.
The British Hallmarking Council is now “maintaining an overview” of the situation and will provide further information when government restrictions are lifted.
