SaferGems ends run of career criminal

Keswick-based jewellers the Necessary Angel had a diamond platinum ring worth £28,000 stolen on 1 May this year, after Bacana Adam had entered and asked to look at the most expensive ring they had before disappearing moments later.

Cumbrian Police Force’s Ruth Elliot described how SaferGems contributed to Adam’s arrest and prosecution: “CCTV was seized from the premises and images of the suspects were circulated to SaferGems and all police forces nationwide. Lee Henderson, intelligence officer for SaferGems, viewed the bulletin and viewed the CCTV stills of the suspects. He identified the female suspect and provided the officer in case at Cumbria Constabulary with a witness statement the same day.

“Due to the quick response from SaferGems I was able to identify the female suspect and place her on the national database as wanted. Through her being placed on the national database she was located in the West Midlands and arrested. Without the identification from SaferGems I am certain that this female would never have been located, arrested and charged for this offence.”
