The major international airline chose the jewellery designer in the ‘Rising Star’ category of its prestigious China Business Awards for “dynamic and innovative businesses, which have opened operations in China within the last five years and demonstrate entrepreneurial flair”.
Liu became the first UK-based jewellery designer to have a standalone store in China in 2009, located in Beijing, and also has several concession stands in department stores.
The ceremony will be held in London and Liu is set to receive a “special mention” as one of the strong contenders to take the award.
Impressed by Liu’s business strategy in mainland China and his recent initiative to introduce UK-based jewellery designers to the Chinese luxury market, award organisers at Cathay Pacific felt that he “demonstrated entrepreneurial flair in introducing the boutique design concept to China”.
They also revealed that all of this year’s judges were keen to see Fei Liu recognised and encouraged for his work.
Commenting on the commendation, Liu said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be considered as one of the strong contenders for these very important awards.
“It is vital to recognise how the British creative industries are increasingly thriving in China, and to be highlighted as a success story by such a high profile corporation is a great honour.”
