Beards Jewellers in Cheltenham will host a diamond treasure hunt this Saturday in an effort to raise money for Maggie’s Cancer Centre, the nationwide support centre.
The Beard Diamond Rush will see the jeweller hide 10 real diamonds at key landmarks in and around Cheltenham.
Each of the stones, which were specially delivered from New York earlier this month, is a 0.40-carat round cut diamond and is worth £1,000.
Treasure maps containing clues to help find the stones are now available to purchase from Beards, Maggie’s Cancer Centre, Waitrose and Knight Frank in Cheltenham.
Clue-makers branded in Maggie’s uniform will be at strategic points across the town on Saturday, September 13, and will be offering extra clues to hunters who offer an extra £5 donation.
Alexander Rose, managing director of Beards, said: “We are incredibly excited to be debuting such an elaborate treasure hunt. So far, the Diamond Rush has received an unprecedented response with enquiries from as far afield as Liverpool and America and a daily flood of people coming to the shop to buy maps.
“We are aiming to raise an astronomical figure for Maggie’s, which will go towards supporting their amazing and vital work.”
Anna Mason, centre fundraiser at Maggie’s, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Beards on this thoroughly unique and exciting project.”
The finders of the diamonds will be directed to Beards to reclaim their prize.
