Jewellery and Watch Birmingham (J&WB) has announced that Sophie Lomax, a recent graduate from the Birmingham School of Jewellery, has been awarded the £5,000 bursary for 2015.
Launched in conjunction with the Birmingham School of Jewellery, the announcement follows an initial application process and a series of interviews with prospective graduates.
The initiative will see Lomax, who graduated in 2012 with a first class honours in Jewellery Design for Industry, experience a series of networking opportunities and mentoring from members of the J&WB Advisory Panel.
The long-term initiative will also see Lomax organise events to bring together a wider group of graduates and experienced experts to offer inspiration, tutoring, mentorship and discussions surrounding prevalent topics within the jewellery industry.
Lomax will be asked to document her experiences via a dedicated blog on the J&WB website.
Lomax said: “This opportunity was open to all graduates from the School of Jewellery, so it’s really great to have been selected – I’m ecstatic.
“The £5,000 will be hugely beneficial in helping me develop my own designs and launch a capsule collection, and the fact that I will be mentored by some of the industry’s top individuals and companies is priceless.”
