Jewellery brand Theo Fennell has designed and created the first Al Shaqab Lockinge trophy, to be presented to the winner of the inaugural Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes at Newbury Racecourse.
The trophy, which will be presented at the event on Saturday May 16, was crafted by hand in from solid silver by a team of silversmiths using traditional techniques, and has been hand-engraved and hallmarked in London.
Theo Fennell, owner and designer at the eponymous brand, said: “We are thrilled…to have been commissioned to design and handcraft the Al Shaqab Lockinge trophy.
“We feel the piece reflects the importance of the race, the traditions of Newbury Racecourse and the deep commitment of Al Shaqab to this great sport. It has been a joy to have been involved in this project.”
The Lockinge Stakes was first run in 1958 and has been won by many famous horses, including Frankel.
Harry Herbert, racing advisor to Al Shaqab Racing, said: “The Al Shaqab Lockinge is a race very close to our hearts having won it last year with Olympic Glory.
“Being a very prestigious race, we felt it was essential to honour the achievements of the winner appropriately and what better way to do that than with a trophy designed and made by the world famous British jeweller, Theo Fennell.”
