A rare diamond ring in the shape of a spider – dubbed the ‘Spia-mond Ring’ – has been predicted to fetch £200,000 at auction.
The original ring from the premier of the Spiderman 2 movie went on sale for 10 days on online auction website Catawiki on Friday, 4 December. Bidding for the piece started at £1.
The 20.37-carat diamond ring features 18-carat gold and a web-cut diamond at the heart of the piece – a unique eight-sided diamond with 48 facets. The web-cut diamond draws inspiration from the spider.
Ben Fried, general manager of Catawiki UK, said: ‘At Catawiki we see all kinds of unusual collectibles pass through our auctions, but this is one of the most unique items we’ve ever auctioned off.
“The exceptional craftsmanship and one-of-a-kind design, combined with its place in pop culture history, makes this a true collectible in every sense and we are expecting a lot of interest in this particular item.”
The collectable piece was created in 2005 by the Antwerp-based Dali Diamond Company.
