The Goldsmiths’ Centre has revealed the eight jewellery designer makers who will be taking part in this year’s incubation course, Setting Out.

All participating startups will benefit from central London-based studio space and a year of intensive business, design and product development training, aiming to help them to transition from the bench into successful businesses of their own.

This annual course, now in its fifth year, sees Setting Out participants work towards producing a solid business plan and developing a product range at the Goldsmiths’ Centre.

This year’s participants are Rachel Balfour, Ellis Mhairi Cameron, Leonid Dementiev, Lukas Grewenig, Sam Hamilton, Roxanna Moznabi, Malgorzata Mozolewska and Jessica Pass.

Past students, who have gone on to become successful in the industry, include award-winning jewellery designer Vicky Lew, who exhibited as part of IJL’s Kick-Start and at Goldsmiths’ Fair in 2016, and Colombian born jewellery designer, Ana Thompson, who will be exhibiting for the first time at London Fashion Week this September 2017.

Peter Taylor, director of the Goldsmiths’ Centre, said: “As Setting Out grows in reputation every year, we’re excited to see this reflected through the quality and breadth of applications received by our selection panel.

“This year’s group of participants are already breaking boundaries through their innovative jewellery designs and commercial potential; and we’re convinced that Setting Out will help them to make further waves as the next generation of successful UK jewellery businesses.”
