The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has appointed Sriram Ram Natarajan as senior vice president of laboratory operations.
Natarajan, previously managing director of GIA India Laboratory Private Limited, began his new role in early August.
He is now based at GIA’s global headquarters in Carlsbad, California, and reports to president and chief executive Pritesh Patel.
In his new position, Natarajan will oversee the vision and strategy for GIA’s global laboratory operations, including diamond grading and jewellery services.
Natarajan joined GIA India in 2017 as vice president of laboratory operations and became managing director in 2020.
In that role, he led the organisation’s education and laboratory activities in India. He brings more than 30 years’ international experience across multiple industries.
Patel said: “Ram is a dynamic leader closely attuned to GIA’s mission and the needs of our laboratory clients. As we continue to introduce new technologies and develop laboratory products and services, his expertise, insight and experience will be invaluable.”
Natarajan added: “It is an honour to take on responsibility for overseeing GIA’s gemological laboratories. I look forward to working with our teams and clients to deliver high-quality laboratory services and uphold the standards of excellence that GIA is known for.”
