Tiffany unveils new Bird on a Rock jewellery collection

Tiffany and Co has launched a new jewellery collection reimagining Jean Schlumberger’s Bird on a Rock motif, one of the house’s most recognisable designs.

The collection, named Bird on a Rock by Tiffany, has been developed under the direction of Nathalie Verdeille, Tiffany’s chief artistic officer for jewellery and high jewellery. It introduces new high jewellery suites and, for the first time, extends the motif into the fine jewellery category.

Central to the collection is a wing motif, described by Tiffany as “graceful, sculptural and symbolic”. Verdeille said the design team studied birds in detail to reflect the movement of feathers and wings.

Verdeille said: “For the high jewellery Bird on a Rock designs, we studied birds as Jean Schlumberger did, carefully observing their stances, their feathers, the structures of their wings, to create dynamic forms that seem to flutter and perch upon the wearer.”

The collection features two high jewellery suites. One highlights tanzanite, a gemstone introduced by Tiffany in 1968, while the other focuses on turquoise, which has been used in the house’s designs for more than a century.

The turquoise suite includes a necklace with a diamond bird perched on strands of cabochon turquoise, accented with gold and diamond feathers, alongside a pendant, brooch and ring.

In the fine jewellery range, the motif is distilled into more abstract wing-inspired designs. Verdeille added: “We looked at this bird from another perspective, distilling it down to its essence, the wing, and stylising the motif into elegant, abstract patterns.”

The fine jewellery pieces include figurative bird motifs and sculptural forms with hidden diamond settings designed to create the effect of stones suspended in air. Convertible earrings, which can be worn in four different styles, are among the key designs.

Bird on a Rock by Tiffany is available from 2 September at selected Tiffany stores worldwide.
