Jewellery buying consortium Houlden has appointed Lizzie McAuley as a director on its board of executives.

She was chosen for the role after attending several director’s meetings as part of a guest member programme, and the group said she will play “a vital role” in delivering the key strategies in place to shape and steer the business.

McAuley is currently the director of Bedford-based jewellers Baker Brothers Diamonds, a family-run jewellery store founded in 1839. She took over the company with her sister Rebecca after her father died.

Commenting on her appointment, McAuley said: “As a member, the [company] advantage improved several aspects of my business so I look forward to working with a board of like-minded industry experts to take Houlden to the next level and beyond.”

CEO Helen Haddow added: “We are delighted to add further diversity to the board. She is a welcome addition and I look forward to her input in helping to shape the future of Houlden.”
