Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are searching for “abseiling” jewellery thieves who broke into a H. Samuel store and stole over £40,000 worth of jewels.

At around 2.40am on Tuesday 25 June 2019 police were called to the jewellery store at the Fort retail park in Cheetham Hill, after they received reports of a burglary.

Officers attended and discovered the offenders had entered by breaking through the ceiling and abseiling 40ft into the store before smashing glass display cabinets and stealing jewellery.

DC Atkinson from GMP’s City of Manchester Team said it was a “well-planned” burglary, and that the offenders “knew exactly what they were doing”, and the police are now appealing for witnesses or for anyone with any information to come forward.

He added: “We have launched an investigation and we encourage anyone with information to come forward, these offenders were highly skilled, someone must know something about their plans. A large quantity of jewellery has been stolen and we would like any information that would assist with the investigation.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 1146 alternatively call 101 quoting the reference number 238 of 25/06/19 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
