Organisers for the Istanbul Jewellery Show have confirmed that the event will be postponed amid the recent coronavirus outbreak.
The event, which was due to take place later this month, is now scheduled to take place between 18-21 June 2020.
News of the postponement comes only one day after organisers said the event would “go ahead as planned”.
In a newly-released statement, organisers for Istanbul Jewellery Show team said: “We wish to inform you that we have decided to postpone the Istanbul Jewellery Show, planned to run from 19-22 March 2020 at CNR Expo, Istanbul Fair Center.
“In light of the recent global developments around the COVID-19 virus, our top priority is the health and safety of everyone involved in the Istanbul Jewellery Show; our employees, partners, customers and exhibitors.”
It added: “After careful consultation with industry stakeholders, and upon the official decision of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Trade on 11 March 2020 regarding the postponement of international organisations, the event will now take place on 18-21 June 2020.
“We are continuing to liaise directly with all relevant authorities while monitoring and complying with guidance from the World Health Organisation and the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Health. We will keep you informed of any new developments as we receive them.”
Organisers said they “sincerely apologise” for the inconvenience caused, and hope that visitors understand that this decision is “in the best interests of the community”.
