Hong Kong jewellery shows postponed until 2021

The HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show and the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show have been postponed until next year in light of ongoing travel restrictions.

The shows were initially scheduled to take place in March. In light of the escalating pandemic, however, organisers announced that the shows would be postponed until May, with a later postponement until August.

The August shows will now take place in March 2021, after the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government announced that a compulsory 14-day quarantine for overseas visitors would be extended until 18 September 2020.

The extension of this restriction would mean that overseas exhibitors and buyers would face “great difficulty” joining the shows if they were to run from 3 August to 6 August as scheduled.

After consulting with industry representatives, organisers have confirmed that the HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show will now take place between 1 March and 5 March 2021 at AsiaWorld-Expo.

In addition, the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show will take place between 3 March and 7 March 2021 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Organisers said they are now consulting with the industry to explore other “viable promotional options to help companies seize business opportunities during this challenging time”. It will announce the details of new arrangements “in due course”.

In a statement, organisers said: “We would like to express our gratitude to exhibitors, pavilion organisers, industry associations and buyers from around the world for their tremendous support for HKTDC events — especially to the over 1,100 exhibitors and more than 10,000 buyers already registered for the twin jewellery shows.

“We will continue to make every effort to help companies capture business opportunities through multiple channels.”
