trunk ringwebAn exhibition and auction of the Gemfields ‘Emeralds for Elephants’ collection of elephant-themed jewellery has been held at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai.

The auction raised a total of $750,000 (£475,759), of which $150,000 (£95,151) was donated to World Land Trust and Wildlife Trust of India.

Gemfields’ chief executive Ian Harebottle said: “We are thrilled with the results of the auction, especially as this is the first time that an auction of this kind has been held in India. We are honoured to have worked with so many great partners on this project, including India’s top jewellers and retailers.”

Each jeweller used unique Zambian emeralds in their designs, which formed the Emeralds for Elephants collection.
