Around 180 people were in attendance at the opening on 29 November, which saw Wakefields become only the second new UK-based retail account for Rolex in the past eight years – the other account being in Windsor.

The jeweller was told the news by Rolex in 2011, which was also Wakefield’s centenary year. It was a two year process from applying to the launch of the in-store Rolex boutique, and the bespoke Rolex room took a year to construct, from the initial CAD design to the build and fit.

“It is a tremendous privilege to be able to offer our customers Rolex timepieces, and the arrival of Rolex to Wakefields has come with an enormous amount of preparation, from flying out to Switzerland, to selecting the Rolex timepieces we have available, and building a new luxurious Rolex room in the shop, as well as undergoing intensive staff training at the Rolex headquarters in Kent,” said director Melanie Wakefield.

In October 2012, Wakefields was also given the trophy of ‘Retailer of the Year’ at the Company of Master Jewellers’ annual jewellery business conference in Birmingham.
