Police are appealing for information following a “high value” burglary at a jewellers in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

Officers were called to Festival Place shopping centre just after 2:30am on Thursday 7 April to reports of a burglary at the recently refurbished Beaverbrooks The Jewellers store.

Thieves smashed the doors at the Wote Street entrance of the shopping centre to gain entry before heading to the jewellers and smashing the windows there.

Police said a “high value” amount of jewellery was stolen, although it added at this stage of the investigation it is unclear exactly how much has been stolen.

A spokesperson at Beaverbrooks said: “We can confirm that there was a break in at our Basingstoke store in the early hours of this morning [7 April]. We are working closely with the police to aid their investigation and we look to reopen as soon as possible.”
