Jewellery has been stolen from an Edinburgh jewellers after a gang of raiders smashed their way through the wall of a neighbouring barbers to gain entry.
Thousands of pounds worth of 18-carat diamond pendants and bracelets were stolen from Theodore David Jewellers in Inverleith, Edinburgh, on Sunday 4 December after thieves smashed their way through a wall in the neighbouring Botanic Barbers.
It is believed the thieves used a crowbar, which was left at the scene, to breaking into the barbers before they broke through the wall separating the shops.
The owner of the jewellery store, Theodore David, was on holiday at the time of the break-in and left the shop close. He only returned to survey the extent of the damage on Tuesday 6 December, estimating at least several thousand pounds worth of jewellery had been taken.
Speaking to the Edinburgh Evening News, he said: “It is difficult to judge the scale of the theft and damage just yet. We put about 80% of the stock in the safe, but of what was left on display, whole areas have been cleared.”
Police Scotland have appealed for anyone with information on the raid to contact them as soon as possible.
A police spokesperson said: “Police in Edinburgh are investigating following a break-in at a jewellery store in Montagu Terrace.
“The incident happened around 3.15am on Sunday and officers are continuing to liaise with staff to establish what items, if any, were taken. Anyone with information is asked to come forward.”
