Jeweller Pragnell has launched a high jewellery necklace containing 42 colour-matched Burma rubies as part of its Skimming Stone collection.

The Masterpiece Skimming Stone necklace features 31.60 carats of round brilliant-cut gemstones.

Workshop artisans hand-set the rubies into individual 18-carat yellow gold claw mounts arranged in a graduating layout.

Designers based the shape of the jewellery on the natural, softly curved profiles of stones found in riverbeds and lakes.

The business sources the precious stones from mines in Myanmar, historically known as Burma.

The company selects and sets each gemstone individually to reflect the unique clarity and character of the natural crystal.

The open-back mountings allow ambient light to pass through the setting to enhance the red tones.

The company said: “The setting allows light to pass through each gemstone, enhancing the stone’s natural beauty and framing it in a halo of 18ct polished yellow gold.”
