Auction house Christie’s has set a new world record with a jewellery sale in Paris.
A diamond and platinum Belle Epoque era necklace sold for €1.4m (£1.2m) despite being originally valued at €5-700,000 (£430,000-610,000). It was made by Cartier from the Boni De Castellane and Anna Gould collection.
The auction was held on 6 June in Paris and attracted buyers from 20 different countries, including 124 online bidders.
Some 59% of the lots sold above their presale estimates. Of the lots sold, 97% were sold by value.
All of the lots from the collection of HRH Isabelle de Bourbon-Parme were sold, at €624,250 (£544,944) which was three times its presale estimate. Also, a ‘deux chimères’ coral and diamond bracelet by Cartier was sold for €374,500 (£327,239) against a presale estimate of €20,000-30,000 (£17,476 – £26,214).
