Cred Jewellery has announced the launch of its ‘ultimate ethical’ engagement ring collection using its own lab-grown diamonds.

The brand, which was one of the pioneering jewellery brands to use Fairtrade gold, insists that the use of lab grown diamonds will lead to a product that is 100% traceable and 30% cheaper than mined stones.

The lab grown diamonds will belong to the category Type IIA, which are considered the purest and most valued kind of diamond. Less than 2% of the world’s mined diamonds belong to this category.

The diamonds are conflict and child labour free, making them environmentally and socially responsible. The stones take four days to create.

Alan Frampton, Cred’s managing director, said: “Mining diamonds is an energy intensive and ecologically invasive procedure, affecting fragile ecosystems across the world. Lab grown diamonds are a victory for the environment, human rights and diamond supply chain transparency.”
