Police were called to Swanage High Street on Saturday night, following reports of a burglary at local jewellery store Georgian Gems.

Police said the raid involved a “number of men” armed with sledgehammers and crowbars.

Whilst no injuries were reported, a safe was stolen by the armed group, who fled the scene in a vehicle that was later found abandoned.

Detective Inspector Neil Wright said police have launched a “full and thorough investigation” following the incident.

He added: “We are carrying out a number of enquiries today, including house-to-house visits.

“There were a number of people in the area at the time and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw the offenders abandon the vehicle, and has not already spoken to police to come forward.”

It is understood that no arrests have yet been made.
