Family-run jewellery business F. Hinds, which also operates Chapelle, has announced that all sites for both brands are to close until further notice.
In a newly released statement, the Hinds family said: “It is with great sadness that we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close all of our stores from the end of Tuesday 24 March to help to protect the communities in which we live and work.
“Events have moved so quickly over the past few days and it is now clear to us that this is the right thing to do to protect our customers and staff and to keep everyone safe as possible in these extraordinary times.”
The family-run business, which has operated for 160 years, will keep its stores closed until it is advised that it is safe to re-open.
The retailer, which operates from 116 sites across the UK, originally rescued Chappelle from administration back in 2019.
Chappelle, which was founded in 1979, has continued to operate from its 12 outlet stores under the direction of F. Hinds.
The group will continue its store opening programme with the opening of a new F. Hinds location in Luton “when the time is right”.
For now, it is asking all customers awaiting an in-store collection to go into their nearby store by tomorrow if their item is ready to collect. It will also continue its online ordering process, allowing customers to have pieces delivered to their homes.
