The British Academy of Jewellery (BAJ) has announced the launch of its first foundation diploma, the BAJ Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, that is set to begin on 7 September 2020.
The association has dubbed the diploma an “innovative and challenging general art & design course”. The level-three diploma will be taught full-time over one year, and provides a practical introduction to 3D making and materials.
The course will focus on material experimentation, design principles and aesthetics, as well as 2D and 3D design model generation, and students will be introduced to a range of materials and methods of working through studio and workshop projects.
The BAJ said that all students will complete their study through a varied combination of project work, assignments, presentations and group critiques, and also engage with projects, lectures and study visits in order to identify their interests and ambitions.
The BAJ Foundation culminates in a final project and end-of-year exhibition. Students will also have created a portfolio and prepared for interviews for university or employment.
Successful completion of the course can also see students progress to the BAJ’s BA (Hons) in Jewellery Design and Production, or a range of undergraduate courses at universities across the UK.
The course will be open to applications from UK, EU and international students who can provide a portfolio of prior creative work in art and design.
