The Birmingham Assay Office has announced that it has extended its core training and education programme to introduce two new one-day interactive courses in 2012.
Understanding Coloured Gemstones will provide “technical information in an accessible way about the most important coloured stones that are used in jewellery,” and Identifying Hallmarks and Important Gemstones, which is “targeted specifically at retailers selling second hand jewellery who need a more in-depth knowledge of older hallmarks and a good understanding of diamonds and coloured gemstones.”
Michael Allchin, chief executive and assay master, said: “These two new courses add to the Birmingham Assay Office’s popular portfolio of training programmes…We know from delegate feedback that our courses get results. For example, previous training undertaken by retailers at the Assay Office has resulted in significant increases in diamond sales.”
The Assay Office also offers a range of bespoke training opportunities.
