Responsible Jewellery Council certifies De Beers for high standards

Established in 1888, De Beers Group was a founding member of the Council and employs approximately 16,000 people in its diamond mining operation across Botswana, Canada, Namibia and South Africa. It strives to make a positive difference in the areas it works in through the ‘Living up to Diamonds’ campaign.

Michael Rae, RJC’s chief executive officer, said: “The De Beers Group of Companies is the largest diamond mining group to achieve RJC Certification and we warmly congratulate De Beers on its certification.

“The successful verification assessment was conducted by Firouzeh Siavoshi from SGS, one of the independent third-party auditing firms accredited to the RJC’s Member Certification system,” he added.

De Beers’ director of public affairs Dr James Suzman believes that the standards they have been honoured for are embedded into the company and its commercial ethics. “It is particularly pleasing to receive confirmation that we measure up to the exacting requirements of credible and external standards like the RJC’s,” he said.

“De Beers remains committed to supporting industry-wide initiatives like the RJC Certification system, which reinforce stakeholder and consumer confidence in the diamond industry.”
