A gang of armed robbers riding mopeds and wielding sledge-hammers has conducted a ‘smash-and-grab’ of jewellery from London’s luxury Dorchester Hotel on Park Lane.

Police said that of a group of six, three men went into the hotel’s boutique (where high-end jewellery is on display), at about 0130 this morning. The Met said that police officers disturbed the intruders, who scarpered on their mopeds.

The police gave chase, but were unable to catch the perpetrators. The Met said officers did come across a woman who had been knocked down by a moped, although it is not certain that the bike belonged to the robbers in question.

Alex Flanagan, Det Con of the ‘Flying Squad’, told media: “This was a well planned and thought-through robbery and there may be people who know who is responsible.

“I am keen for those with any information, no matter how small, to come forward and assist us with our investigation.”
