An historic jewellery shop in Newton Abbot, Devon, has been put on the market by its owner after 10 years’ ownership.
250-year-old Ham & Huddy has become a “permanent feature” in the market town of Newton Abbot but Downey is looking to retire.
The store’s collection includes custom made jewellery, watches from brands such as Rotary, Citizen and Skagen, and a collection of silverware and pewter gifts.
The freehold of Ham & Huddy is available at a guide price of £300,000, however, the current owner is also open to creating a new lease for a negotiable term available down to zero premium – dependent on stock valuation – at an annual rent of £23,500.
Jonathon Southgate of Christie + Co’s South West retail team is handling the sale. He said: “Ham & Huddy is a business that has much in its favour – not least the location in the lively market town of Newton Abbott, which in itself is a gateway to both Dartmoor and the coastal resorts of Torquay and Teignmouth.
“This, combined with [its] excellent and historic trading performance, should help to generate interest both from buyers in the south west region, as well as further afield – as prospective purchasers from London and the south east may see this as an excellent opportunity to make a long-sought-after lifestyle change.”
