The soon-to-be president of the new National Association of Jewellers (NAJ), Patrick Fuller, has spoken of his “delight” that the unification vote succeeded.

Fuller, who is the chairman of WB the Creative Jewellery Group, said an amalgamated association is something he has dreamt of for a “very long time” and that he has no doubts the NAJ will bring “great benefits to the industry”. He added that he was honoured to have been invited to “bring it to a reality”.

After a successful vote to unify the National Associations of Goldsmiths (NAG) and the British Jewellers Association (BJA), Fuller said it was essential for the NAJ to address the concerns of those members who had their doubts about the unification.

He said: “The challenge now is to create a contemporary, consumer-facing body that offers pertinent services to its members and is a major force in the field of education whilst not losing sight of the traditional values that both organisations have upheld for so long.

“It is also essential that we address the worries of those members who had their doubts about the unification and deal with their concerns in the correct way.”

Fuller, who has held positions within both the NAG, where he was president, and in the BJA, where he was chairman, added he had been “very touched” by the kind feedback of support.
