Watch brand Seiko has announced that it will once again be the official timekeeper of the International Association of Athletic Federation (IAAF) World Championships.

It is the 14th consecutive World Championships that Seiko has been appointed as the official timer since the event was held in Rome in 1987.

Seiko will introduce new equipment at this year’s event including the trackside display board, wind display board and lap counter which will all be renewed in design and use LED  technology to display track and field results and information.

It also plans to link these new displays together with the field events board, which was introduced in Moscow 2013, to create a complete network of information display boards throughout the stadium.

Seiko said that the solution will improve the spectator experience and allow everyone to “fully enjoy” the competitions wherever they are seated and when multiple disciplines are taking place at the same time.

The event, which will take place in Beijing from August 22 to 30, expects to welcome over 1,900 athletes from 207 countries.
