Laing Edinburgh has announced the opening of its new £1.7m store on the capital city’s George Street.

The 9,000 sq ft store, which is believed to be the largest jewellery store outside of London, was officially opened on Friday, 18 December, in celebration of the company’s 175th anniversary.

The three-storey store occupies the corner site on George Street – Edinburgh luxury shopping destination – and will stock brands including Rolex, Cartier, Jaeger le Coultre, and Mikimoto.

Michael Laing, chairman, said the new store represents a “significant milestone” in the family’s history and that opening such a “magnificent store” on Edinburgh’s George Street is the fulfilment of a “lifelong dream” and the culmination of months of work.

He added: “We’d been looking for the right location for Laing on George Street for many years and when this prominent building came to market, we knew it was the right home for Laing.

“It’s a traditional Georgian building in a superb location and enjoys extensive window space so customers can more easily browse our luxury brands and diamond collections.

The store is also displaying a £175,000 one-off diamond necklet, which the company created to celebrate its anniversary.
