US-based tech giant Apple has reported that its Apple Watch has recorded a record number of quarterly sales in its latest financial update.
Apple – which does not break out sales of the Apple Watch, but includes them in its ‘other’ category alongside iPods, Apple TVs and Beat headphones – reported a revenue growth of almost 40% in its ‘other’ category in the first quarter of 2016.
Revenue in the category jumped from $2.7bn (£1.89bn) in the first quarter of 2015 to $4.35bn (£3.04bn) in the first quarter of 2016. Overall, the company reported revenue of $75.9bn (£53.04bn) and net quarterly profit of $18.4bn (£12.86bn).
Tim Cook, CEO, said: “Our team delivered Apple’s biggest quarter ever, thanks to the world’s most innovative products and all-time record sales of iPhone, Apple Watch and Apple TV.
“The growth of our Services business accelerated during the quarter to produce record results, and our installed base recently crossed a major milestone of one billion active devices.”
The second edition of the Apple Watch is expected to be revealed in September.
