A jewellery store in Borough Green – part of the Tonbridge and Malling district of Kent – is to close at the end of the month after 40 years in business.
The Jewellers, previously known as J.C. Gourbould, in Station Road was known for providing bespoke, repairs, alteration and remodelling services.
The store owner told the Kent and Sussex Courier that the store is closing down due to the property’s landlord taking back the lease of the building.
She said: “We definitely would have stayed if [we] could, because we’re established and have been doing really well. We have a good little business.”
Payne has worked in the store for almost 25 years after taking over from the previous owner, John Gourbould, who founded the store more than 40 years ago.
She added: “I will probably be working from home,” the 43-year-old added, “I will not be getting retail premises at the moment as it is very expensive. I will be closing the shop next week but I hope people will continue to come to me for commissions.”
