Oddical named Designer to Watch at IJL

Farrah Al-Dujaili, the designer for Oddical, has been given the ‘Designer to Watch’ Editors’ Choice Award at this year’s International Jewellery London show.

A panel of industry magazine and digital editors praised the designer-maker and IJL 2017 KickStarter for her brand Oddical, which uses 3D printing techniques, plastics, precious metals and metal paint to create a fine jewellery aesthetic without the characteristic weight.

Pieces have subtle differences in surface texture and hand-painted details in an eye-catching shade of turquoise that enhance the quirky, rough luxe feel of the collection.

One editor commented: “Farrah creates jewellery with really exciting shapes and uses 3D printing to not only create interesting designs, but also jewellery that is practical to wear. A really worth winner of the ‘Designer to Watch’ Award!”

IJL event director, Sam Willoughby, added: “Oddical is a brand that immediately showcases its identity with a bold design style, striking colours and a real emphasis on everyday wearability with a twist.

“I am thrilled that designer Farrah Al-Dujaili – one of our hugely talented KickStarters – has won this award, especially as so many of our judging panel singled her out for success.”

The winners of the first phase of Editors’ Choice in the three exclusive categories – Technical Trailblazer, Creative Originality and Commercial Mastermind – were The Rock Hound (Stand Q38), Isabella Liu (Stand R30) and Franco Florenzi (Stand F28) respectively.
